Q1: What is Tether?
A: Tether APP lets you access your TP-Link devices on your smartphone, and brings an easier way to help accomplish the most common settings such as Internet connection, wireless network name and password, access control rules etc.
Tether is now available on APP Store and Google Play.
Q2: Does Tether support my TP-Link device?
A: Currently Tether supports the following models (English firmware). Only the corresponding hardware version listed and newer versions will support Tether.

Compatible Devices are listed here:
https://www.tp-link.com/tether_compatibility_list/

Notes:
To use Tether, please download and upgrade your device to the latest firmware from our website. The English firmware on https://www.tp-link.com/en/ are most updated and suitable for universal use. For localized firmware compatibility please check the firmware release notes on corresponding websites.
More models will support Tether gradually through firmware update.
Q3: What if Tether cannot detect my TP-Link device in the “Device” Page?
A: Please refer here to find the answer.
Q4: What if Tether failed to log in my TP-Link device?
A: Please refer here to find the answer.
Q5: Does Tether work if my smartphone is connecting to the 5GHz Network of my dual band device?
A: Yes. Tether works with both bands of 2.4GHz and 5GHz. But it does not work if you are connecting to your device through Guest Network.
Q6: Does Tether work if my smartphone is connecting to a Guest Network?
A: Sorry. Tether does not work if you are connecting to your device through a Guest Network.
Make sure you are connecting to the main network of your device before using Tether.
Q7: Does Tether work if my TP-Link devices work as Access Point?
A: Currently, only some TP-Link Wi-Fi routers or range extenders support Tether App under access point mode. If your Tether App cannot detect your TP-Link device working as access point mode or just detect your TP-Link device as an unknown device, I am afraid that your TP-Link device cannot support this feature yet. You may contact TP-Link Technical Support to get more info.
Q8: Does Tether work if I change the LAN IP of my TP-Link device?
A: Yes. Just be sure your smartphone is still connecting to your device after you changed the LAN IP. And be sure your smartphone is still in the same subnet with your device after you changed the LAN IP.

Q9: What’s the username and password to sign in to Tether?

A: The default username and password are both admin (small case), same as that to log in to the web-based management page. Use the one you’ve created to sign in if it’s not admin anymore. And we can only hard reset the TP-LINK device to revert it back to admin if you forgot your username or password.

Q10: How to change device name on Tether App?

Q11: How do I block users through the Tether app?

Q14: Can I set up the DSL Modem Router into Access Point mode on Tether APP?

Q15: Does the Internet light still lit up when the DSL Modem Router works as an Access Point?

Q16: Can I still manage the DSL Modem Router remotely on the Tether APP when it works as an Access Point?

A: No, you can only manage the DSL Modem Router when it works as a router.

Q17: What should I do if I want to change my TP-Link ID on Tether App?

A: If your TP-Link device has been bound to a previous account, please unbind the device from the previous account first, go to Tools->TP-Link ID, tap the three dots on the right side of your account, tap Unbind.

After that, you could log out of your account from the Tether app, log in with your new email (if it is not a TP-Link ID yet, please sign up with a new email first), then you could bind the device to this new account.

In addition, if you don't see the TP-Link ID option on the Tools page, your device might not support cloud management, so there is no need to unbind, just log out your previous account from the App and login with your new account or sign up with your new account.
